What happens during hypnosis?
- Your mind will be alert and active through the entire session.
- You will hear everything I say and you will remember as much as one normally would during a normal conversation.
- You might feel a deep sense of relaxation or you might feel a weightless experience there is no specific hypnotic feeling
What you feel is perfectly natural. - Sometimes you will be interested in what the hypnotist says and other times your mind wonders, this too is natural.
- If asked to imagine something – feel free to imagine what you like.
- If you need to scratch, cough or change your position, go ahead as this helps you to achieve further relaxation.
CAN YOU BE HYPNOTISED AGAINST YOUR WILL?
It’s not possible to be forced into a hypnotic state, instead you allow yourself to be hypnotised. It is a voluntary altering of your own consciousness, and you are always in control. It’s almost like you are hypnotising yourself.
IS Self-Hypnosis safer or more effective than going to a trained professional?
Self-Hypnosis can be detrimental when not taught by a trained professional, as a negative attitude or belief about oneself will be reinforced regardless of suggestions given. This can cause more stress and problems in the long run. Hypnotherapy directly accesses the subconscious mind, while Self-Hypnosis cannot.
IF I BECOME HYPNOTISED, IS THERE A CHANCE I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SNAP OUT OF IT?
Hypnosis is very safe and is in fact, just a natural state of hyper-focus. Any time there is an emergency, a person would naturally be able to come out of the hypnotic state by opening their eyes, and stretching or speaking. It’s like worrying that you’ll get ‘stuck’ in a daydream, it’s just not possible.
I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED HYPNOSIS BEFORE, WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Every person naturally enters a state of hypnosis at least twice everyday: just before falling asleep at night, and upon awaking every morning, before getting out of bed. Most people easily enter ‘Environmental Hypnosis’ while at the movies, watching TV, driving on the highway, or while reading a good book.
CAN HYPNOSIS MAKE YOU SUPER-STRONG, FAST OR ATHLETICALLY TALENTED?
While hypnosis can be used to enhance performance, it cannot make people stronger or fitter than their existing physical capabilities. In reality, we’re often unconsciously limiting our performance and hypnosis serves to unlock these latent abilities.
IS HYPNOSIS A MIRACLE CURE?
While Hypnosis is a relatively quick method of making permanent improvements, there is no such thing as a one-time “Hypno-Miracle”! Every individual makes progress at his or her own rate. Be weary of those who make wild claims of overnight success.
